Sea Transport

Sea transport, or maritime transport, is a critical component of the global logistics and transportation network. It involves the movement of goods and passengers by sea and is one of the oldest and most efficient modes of transport. Sea transport is essential for international trade, as it handles the majority of the world's cargo, including raw materials, finished products, and energy resources.

Challenges in Sea Transport

Weather and Sea Conditions: Severe weather, such as storms and rough seas, can disrupt shipping schedules and pose risks to vessels. Navigating through adverse conditions requires advanced technology and experienced crews.

Piracy and Security: Certain regions, such as parts of the Gulf of Aden and the coast of Somalia, face piracy threats. Ensuring maritime security and protecting vessels from criminal activities is an ongoing challenge.

Environmental Concerns: Shipping contributes to marine pollution through oil spills, ballast water discharge, and emissions. Regulations such as the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) MARPOL convention aim to address these issues and promote cleaner practices.

Infrastructure and Port Efficiency: Ports must be equipped to handle large volumes of cargo and modern vessels. Inefficient port operations can lead to delays and increased costs, affecting the overall supply chain.
